Mold jobs vary too much for a one-size number to mean anything. A small bathroom ceiling and a whole crawl space are completely different projects. Here's what actually moves the price, so you can compare quotes. (New to this? Start with our overview of mold removal in Little Rock: when it's a DIY job and when it isn't.)
Want a rough range first? The mold remediation cost estimator turns the affected square footage and the room into the national ranges published by two cost guides.
Mold removal cost by size and location
No one publishes remediation prices for Pulaski, Saline or Faulkner County, so the only honest numbers are national ones. Two cost guides publish them: Fixr (updated August 2025) and Bob Vila (updated April 2024, drawing on Angi and HomeAdvisor data). These four lines cover most of the calls this site gets:
| The job | Fixr, national | Bob Vila, national |
|---|---|---|
| Rate per square foot, once growth is past the size a homeowner should handle | $10 to $30 per sq ft | $10 to $25 per sq ft |
| Joists and subfloor in a crawl space (sealing the space afterward is separate: see crawl space encapsulation cost) | $500 to $2,000 | $500 to $2,000 |
| Attic sheathing and rafters | $1,500 to $9,000 | $1,000 to $4,000 |
| Spread through the whole house | $10,000 to $30,000 | $10,000 to $30,000 |
Read the table two ways. First, the per-foot line: 50 square feet of growth on a bedroom wall works out to roughly $500 to $1,500 at Fixr's rate. Second, the location lines, which already bake in the setup every job carries (a crew, plastic, an air scrubber, hauling). A small job tends to land near the bottom of its location range, not at the per-foot arithmetic. Crawl spaces are common here because so many Central Arkansas houses sit over a vented one, and their range is lower than an attic's because the framing is usually cleaned in place rather than torn out.
None of those figures include the inspection, the leak repair, or putting drywall and flooring back. Plug your own square footage and room into the mold remediation cost estimator to see both methods side by side for your job.
DIY vs pro. EPA's line is about 10 square feet. Below it, on a hard surface, after clean water, most people can do the work themselves for the price of gloves, an N95 and a scrub brush; our mold cleanup guide covers the steps and what has to be thrown out. Above it, or on drywall and insulation, the quote is buying containment and disposal you can't easily do from a hardware store.
What drives the cost
- Size of the affected area. The biggest factor. EPA's 10-square-foot benchmark is a useful reference point for what's a small job.
- Where it is. Open, easy-to-reach areas cost less than wall cavities, tight crawl spaces, attics, or HVAC ductwork.
- What it's growing on. Hard surfaces can often be cleaned in place. Porous materials — drywall, insulation, carpet — have to be removed and replaced.
- Containment. Larger jobs need plastic barriers and air filtration to protect the rest of the house.
- Fixing the moisture source. A plumbing repair, drainage work, a vapor barrier, a dehumidifier, or crawl space encapsulation may be part of the quote, or separate.
- Testing. A mold inspection in Little Rock before the work, and clearance testing after, are sometimes separate line items, sometimes by a separate company.
- Rebuild. Replacing drywall, paint, insulation, or flooring after removal.

- Ask for a written scope: what will be removed, what will be cleaned, square footage, and how the area will be contained. Our checklist for comparing mold remediation companies shows how to line two quotes up.
- Make sure each quote addresses the moisture source, not just the visible mold. Our mold remediation scope checklist lists the steps a complete quote should cover.
- Check whether rebuild is included.
- Be wary of anyone who quotes without looking, or who pushes expensive testing when mold is plainly visible.
Insurance
Whether homeowners insurance covers mold depends on your policy and the cause. If the house is still wet, the first job is usually water damage restoration (drying it out), with mold cleanup after. Mold from a sudden, covered water event (like a burst pipe) is treated differently from mold caused by long-term leaks or humidity, and many policies limit mold coverage. Flood damage generally requires separate flood insurance. Call your agent and document everything with photos before cleanup starts.
Common questions
Is mold testing included in remediation?
Sometimes. Some companies include a pre-inspection; others recommend an independent inspector. Ask what's included in each quote.
Why do mold quotes vary so much?
Different companies may scope the job differently — one may plan to clean framing in place while another plans to replace it, or one may include fixing the moisture source and rebuilding while another doesn't. Compare the written scope, not just the total.
Is mold removal cheaper in Little Rock than the national figures?
We can't say, and nobody we found publishes Little Rock or Arkansas remediation prices. Get two or three written quotes and hold them against the national ranges on this page. A quote far outside them should come with a reason you can see in its scope, such as drywall coming out or a whole crawl space being treated.
